Tokyo, July 7, 2023 - Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (or KCM), headquartered in Tokyo, has completed the construction of the No.2 Excavator Plant at Ogaki Factory (Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture), which constitutes part of the restructuring of the global production system KCM had been working on from last year, and has commenced operations at the building.
As announced on June 24, 2022, KCM has been working on the restructuring of its global production system for the excavator business in order to enhance its adaptability to the fluctuations in the production volume due to changes in the business environment, with the aim to stabilize earnings and lower production costs.
In Japan, production is handled at two sites: Itsukaichi Plant in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture (production capacity : 10,500 units/year of heavy excavators) and Ogaki Factory (production capacity : 8,500 units/year of mini excavators). In response to the increasing production load at these two factories, KCM has built No.2Excavator Plant at Ogaki Factory, and also expanded the fabrication capacity to supplement the production performed at these two factories. The new building is capable of producing a total of 3,000 units of two models; one is 7-ton class excavators which is currently produced at Itsukaichi Plant and other one is 5-ton class mini excavators which is currently produced at Ogaki Factory. With this addition, the production capacity of Ogaki Factory has increased from 8,500 units/year to 11,500 units/year.
To celebrate the completion of the plant, a completion ceremony was held on June 30, 2023.
