Kobelco Construction Machinery Wins Innovation Award
at World Demolition Summit 2022

Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (or KCM), headquartered in Tokyo, won the Innovation Award at the World Demolition Summit 2022 held in Vienna, Austria on November 16 and 17 of 2022. The summit is a global event held annually for the purpose of international network development and education for the demolition industry, and KCM has been participating in the event since 2016.

At this year’s summit, KCM’s innovative super-large building demolition machine SK1300DLC, which was launched firstly in Japan in April 2021, was regarded highly by the judging panel of professionals and won one of the awards, the Innovation Award, that were announced during the summit. The factors leading to the win are as follows.

Improvement in the ease of assembling, disassembling, and transporting

  • By having the upper frame and the boom foot joint as the subframe structure and by significantly reducing the time for detaching the main boom, we succeeded in reducing the disassembly time to about one-quarter of that of SK1000DLC, a model which is one class smaller than SK1300DLC.
  • Although it is a 130t-class machine, its main body (without a crawler and counterweights) only weighs 32t or less, with a width of 3.2m or less and a height of 3.3m or less, when the main boom is removed, making it possible to be transported to a wider variety of regions and sites.

Achievement of the superb balance between the maximum pin height and the maximum attachable mass of the head attachment

  • Utilizing the distinctive parking position of the four-piece machine, we achieved a maximum pin height of 40m and the maximum attachable mass of 4.3t for the head attachment by minimizing the moment of the ultra-long attachment (by placing the attachment’s center of gravity closer to the main body).
