Eco Cap Activities

A Wide-Ranging Circle Spreading Through All Group Companies

Eco Cap activities have been carried out continuously throughout Japan since 2010. Collected plastic bottle caps are periodically recycled by subcontractors, local governments, and schools. In addition to helping reduce waste, profits are used for charitable causes such as purchasing vaccines for impoverished children across the globe. To date, the Group has collected a total of 437,317 plastic bottle caps (enough polio vaccine for approximately 509 children). "Start small and grow steadily," is our motto as we continue to collect plastic bottle caps.

School Visit Science Class

Learning from Excavators! Activity to Nurture Scientific Human Resources

From 2010, we have been continuously giving a class to elementary school students every year called "Balances and Levers" that uses hydraulic excavators as the subject. We provide hands-on type classes with experiments using compact excavators and contrive similar methods to communicate the fun of science while also instilling an interest in construction machinery. In the past, these classes were carried out as a CSR activity of the Hiroshima Factory, but our goal is for them to be implemented at the Okubo and Ogaki Factories, and then throughout the entire company including overseas operation bases as a means to contribute to the development of the industry and society.

We want to share the joy of learning with children.

These visiting science classes were started at the Hiroshima Factory, and as years passed, the number of participating schools increased. In 2019, we were able to open classes in different areas by cooperating with the Okubo Factory and the Ogaki Factory. In the future, we would like to expand into new areas, performing activities oriented to each region.

Inspirational and Exciting CSR Activities by the Company and Local Community Alike

Amid the Eco Cap activities we have been promoting at all of our bases, the Tokyo CSR Committee is carrying out activities together with student volunteer groups from Seisen University located in Shinagawa Ward, same as the committee. While I was a member of the CSR Committee for about two years starting from April 2011, participating in meetings with students and observing the measures they took on campus during this period left me with an incredible impression of the pro-active nature of the activities they carried out. Myself and other members of the CSR Committee at that time were quite inspired by the students' actions, and we could sense how they served to further increase awareness of Eco Cap activities not only at the Tokyo Head Office but throughout the entire KOBELCO CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY GROUP as well. I look forward to improving the exchange of information and expanding the scope of the activities, eventually expanding this type of collaboration to various other CSR activities beyond Eco Cap.
